Alvin & The Chipmunks Meet The Wolfman (2000)

Every Halloween I try to include something a little more family friendly among the gruesome and gory so I thought I'd share one of my old childhood favorites. 'Alvin & The Chipmunks Meet The Wolfman' is an homage to the classic Universal monster movies of the 30's & 40's but with the usual hijinks of the titular Chipmunks. The story is essentially the boy who cried wolf scenario when Alvin is constantly trying to prove his new next door neighbor is in fact a werewolf. Naturally, due to Alvin's obsession with monster movies and plain old logic makes people doubt him unaware that the threat is quite real as his brother Theodore is attacked and now is slowly becoming a werewolf himself.

This is a perfect movie for introducing kids to the classic monsters of yesteryear without being too intense. It has moments that will make them laugh and even a few mild scares. For adults that grew up with Frankenstein, Dracula, and yes the Wolf Man will appreciate the various little Easter Eggs and plot beats from those films. It's a shame the Chipmunk brand devolved over the years into such an unbearable series of crude humor and bad CGI because these cartoons of old were of better quality then one might have thought. Universal put some good effort and money into 'Meet The Wolfman' and is a good pick for those little ones before they go Trick or Treating this year.
